Time to Update the Blog

Wow, life happens and my blog gets neglected.  Lots to catch you up on (sorry this is going to be such a long post!) since May 8th, so here we go....

Wednesday, May 11th - My awesome boss had his going away luncheon today.  The luncheon turned out well so I was happy about that, but very sad for the occasion.  I've been spoiled this past year and consider myself lucky for having the opportunity to work with the greatest CO out there! I've had some awesome CO's in my career, but Mark tops the list!

Mark is a chain diet coke drinker and retired AF... a diet coke plane is
quite appropriate.  I wish I had of thought of that gift!

Friday, May 13th - I went to the Colorado Symphony with some friends.  It was awesome! The guest conductor, Scotty Yoo, made it fun and really put music into layman's terms for us non music folk.  They played Stravinsky's, The Firebird, and I really enjoyed it.  We went to the Cheesecake Factory afterwards and I ate way to much and stayed up way to late!

Me, Kedi, Desiree, Geoff, Diane

Saturday, May 14th- The Denver Stake put on a Taste of Denver event for adults only.  It was a good event and there was a great turnout.  I invited my friend Diane (who is not LDS) to come since she knows a lot of people in the ward already.  It was fun.  Afterwards Diane treated Matt and I to her delicious peanut butter popcorn (seriously she made up this recipe that is amazing) and we threw on a movie at my place! It was a fun evening.

Monday, May 16th - This was kind of my psycho exercise day.  I ran a few minutes of sprints before meeting up with some gals to play some basketball.  Basketball was great fun, until Diana rolled her ankle that is.  Sad day! For the FHE activity we went outside and played missionary tag.  After that a group of us got throwing the football around.  That was great fun until I dove, and made a beautiful catch until I dropped the ball when I landed.  I tweaked my shoulder and got a wicked grass burn through my jacket on my elbow.  My shoulder is still hurting 3 weeks later... hmmm, that's probably not good! It doesn't keep me from doing anything though, so I'm not too worried about it! It was my type of evening enjoying the beautiful Colorado weather and playing!

Thursday, May 19th - Happy Birthday Ryan! Thursday evening I participated in baptisms with my ward and then my friend Marlies and I went to dinner to catch up since she had been out town for three weeks!

Friday, May 20th - Happy Birthday Steve! Friday I invited a few friends over for game night.  Yep, we played Scrabble, it was awesome! Except Audra won with "Tay" which I still find questionable!

Saturday, May 21st - This was my crazy packed Saturday... literally the entire day from 7am-11pm.  It was all fun things though so that makes it nice!

The day started with me volunteering at the Gift of Life and Breath 5K race (which is a fundraiser for lung cancer research which the Zollinger family started), so I had to be there at 7am.  This is the 5th time they have done this race and I have volunteered to help 4 of those 5 years (I was in Kuwait one of the years).  I love being a Course Marshall and cheering people along.  It is always fun to see all the people I know who are participants!

I went straight from the Gift of Life and Breath to Shabi's baby shower.  I got there super late, but still enough time to visit and hang out for a bit.

Once I left the shower I came home, changed, and headed out the door again to get my run in before my next event.  I didn't get as long a run in as I had hoped, but I was attending a YSA Sports Day later on, so I felt okay about it.  I was supposed to be in charge of the Ultimate game at 3pm, but when I got there at 3 a game was already in full swing, so I went running for another 45 mins or so.  Anyway, at the sports day I juggled the soccer ball, visited with a lot of people, ate dinner, and played some volleyball.  I would have loved to play soccer, but was not willing to play when there were about 20 people on each team and it just looked dangerous!!

We played volleyball until about 10:00pm and after that I went my my friend Amber to Whole Foods to visit while enjoying some gelato.  I still needed to got to the grocery story since I was hosting dinner groups the next day, so we went grocery shopping as well.  It was a fun evening and a great end to a fun day, but I was pretty beat when I got home at 11:00pm!

Sunday, May 22nd - Every other month my ward has dinner groups where people sign up to attend and a few sign up to host.  I volunteered to host and a group was then assigned to me.  As the host I get to decide what we are having and divvy up what I want people to bring.  I had a group of about 8 people and it turned out great! Hard to go wrong with taco soup.  I was mean and made everyone go on a walk before we came back for dessert though.  Good times!

Thursday, May 26th through Tuesday, May 31st  - Brent and Ashley came to Denver!!

Thursday, May 26th - Brent and Ashley kind of had a rough time getting here, but after they got here everything was great! There was a little mix-up in flights which put them arriving in Denver at 10:30pm.  They should have arrived at my place around 11:30pm after picking up their rental car.  Well, they would have if they did not have a tire thrown up from the car in front of them which shattered their windshield! So, after the tow truck came and budget provided them with a new car, they finally arrived at my place at 1:30am.  I said "Hello, welcome to Denver, and Good night!"

Friday, May 27th - I woke up early so I could get my 3 hour training run in which I am happy to report I finished! I made it 18.14 miles... that is a new personal record! Friday afternoon I met up with Brent, Ashley, Katie, and the boys at the zoo! It was a nice day and fun to see all the animals.

This Gorilla took a liking to Cayden!

Brent and the Polar Bear

Friday evening Brent, Jared, and I took a trip to Lowe's to buy a BBQ! After all how is one to BBQ on Memorial day without a grill? It was pretty fun hanging with my bros (missed you Ryan!)

Saturday, May 28th - We enjoyed a lazy morning, it was great.  Ashley helped me plant my tomatoes- yeah for my balcony which gets direct sun so I can have tomatoes! Saturday we packed a lunch and headed to the park to enjoy a fun afternoon.  Brent and I even played a little frisbee- good times!

Cute Brent and Ashley and its not even a scrunch picture! :^)

Fireman Jared!

Saturday evening Jared and Brent put the grill together while us gals were lazy and watched the latest Harry Potter.  It was nice to just chill!

Sunday, May 29th - Again we enjoyed a lazy morning before heading to 11:30am Sacrament meeting to support Kim and Tyson since Caleb was being blessed that day.  I then attended the first hour of my ward before meeting up with everyone at Jared and Katie's for dinner.  After dinner we headed to Parker to visit with Annie, Troy, and Mik! Its always a good time hangin' with them!

I just want people to notice there are times when I am not
wearing a hat or a jacket!

Monday, May 30th -  Happy Memorial Day! 5am rolled around mighty fast after Brent and Ashley kept me up until 12:30am visiting! :^) No worries, I loved it! I got up super early to go run the Bolder Boulder 10K race.  I understand it is the 3rd largest 10K race in the country.  I believe it too since there were a ton of people!!! The friend I rode with had an earlier start time so we basically ran by ourselves, kinda sad! It was rather frustrating when I couldn't go very fast at times (literally walking) due to the amount of people.  I think there were 50,000+ people- crazy! I did okay with coming in at 53mins and 27 seconds, but fell short of my goal which was to get under 50 minutes.  My legs were still really tired from my 3 hour run on Friday and I couldn't move through the people, so that didn't help.  I'm still not sure I would have hit it, but I would have come close!

Diane and I after the race- thank goodness for cell phones so we could meet up!

I met up with everyone at Jared and Katie's to enjoy a fabulous BBQ! We enjoyed some time outside attempting to throw the frisbee in really windy conditions, but mostly we just played games and enjoyed the great company.

Tuesday, May 31st -  I went in to work a couple hours later on Tuesday so I could have breakfast with Brent and Ashely since they were heading home that day.  It was sad to have to go back to work since that meant our playing and hanging out had come to an end! Thanks for coming to visit Brent and Ash! It was great having you here!

Tuesday evening after work I was asked to do a RS meeting on Employment.  It went well and I was happy that there were a handful of people who came! After that I had to get the workout in, so it was another late night at the gym... I think I got home after 11pm!

Saturday, June 4th - It was the JLC Classic Golf Tournament #2 today.  The JLC stands for Julie, Laurette, Cat... the three of us came up with the idea and we had the first JLC Classic in September of 2008! It was a success then and it was a success yesterday as well.  Great weather, great people, and fun rules!

Here are the rules that were handed out to every team:

JLC Classic #2 Rules
June 4, 2011
1.     Each group will select a Team Captain prior to teeing off.
2.     All four team members tee off on each hole and then the Team Captain (with input from the team) decides which drive is the most desirable.
3.     The other team members pick up their balls and place them within one club length (no closer to the hole) of the most desirable ball.  Each team member hits their next shot from the chosen spot.
4.     This procedure is followed on every shot for the remainder of the hole, including putts.
5.     Putts need to be made within 3 inches of the marked spot (no closer to the hole). The first ball to go in the hole is counted for the team score.
6.     If the ball you choose to play is in a hazard (sand, water, etc.), the rough, or out of bounds, you can not drop the ball outside of the hazard or rough even if relief is within one club length away.
7.     Each team must use at least three of each team members shots, with at least one shot being a tee shot.
8.     Men tee off from the white tees and women from the red tees.
9.     The string may be used to put your ball in the hole when it is close.  If the ball is 2 inches away from the hole and you choose to use your string, then cut off 2 inches of string.  The remaining amount of string can then be used on future holes. Use your best judgment since you only have so much sting!
A special reminder that you May Not tee up the ball in the fairway.  :^)
Have fun! That is a requirement at the JLC Classic!

The entire group! 4 teams of 4

Team 2 won the trophy! Great job Kim, Gabbi, Cat, and Carol

Team #4 - Kayce, Melissa, Me, Megan

After golfing we went to the Texas Roadhouse for some more fun and then ended the evening by going hot tubbing! It was a fun day!

So, there you have it.  I do believe you are now up to date.  Aside from all the little workouts here or there, getting sick, or doing chores, I think I filled you in on the happenings in my life.  I am very, very excited for this marathon to be over with so I don't have to train anymore! Love you all!
